The difference between a food allergy and intolerance is a food allergy occurs when the immune system reacts to certain proteins in food and food intolerance occurs when the body has a chemical reaction to eating a particular food or drink.
Allergy symptoms range from mild to anaphylaxis, so make sure your eating food that is compatible with you and doesn’t cause an allergy or intolerance.
9 Major Food Allergens with Symptoms
1. Eggs – Skin reactions, Runny Nose, and Itchy and Watery Eyes (hay fever), Cramps, Nausea, or Vomiting.

7. Soybeans – Hives, Itching or Eczema. Tingling sensation in the mouth. Swelling of lips, Face, Tongue, Throat, or other parts of the body. Wheezing, runny nose, or trouble breathing. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. Dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting.
8. Tree Nuts (Walnuts, Almonds, Hazelnut, Pecan, Cashews & Pistachio) - Raised red bumps on the skin (hives), runny nose, cramps, nausea, or vomiting.
9. Wheat – Swelling, itching or irritation of the mouth or throat. Hives, itchy rash or swelling of the skin. Nasal congestion. Headache. Difficulty breathing. Cramps, Nausea, or vomiting. Diarrhea. Anaphylaxis.

5. Celery – Redness, mild swelling or itching of the lips, tongue, inside of the mouth, soft palate, and ears. Itching and mild swelling of the throat.
6. Mushrooms – Nausea, Headaches, Light-Headedness, Hives, Rashes, Diarrhea, Cramping, and Wheezing.
7. Mustard – Skin, Gastrointestinal tract, cardio system, and respiratory tract. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps. Hives, itching, eczema. Wheezing, nasal congestion, shortness of breath and repetitive cough.
8. MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) - Bloating, gas, diarrhea, headaches, abdominal pain, tingling skin.
9. Onions – Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, itching, hives, or rash, swelling of the face, lips, or throat. Trouble breathing.
10. Potato – Reaction to touching, peeling, or eating. Rhinitis, itchy or stinging eyes, a runny or stuffy nose, and sneezing. Red itchy skin.
