Indoor Allergy Causes

Below are 8 Allergens that could trigger an Indoor Allergy which could lead to chronic health problems if not resolved.

1. Dust Mites

According to the AAFA (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America), around 20 million Americans are allergic to dust mites, meaning they're one of the most common triggers of allergies and asthma. Dust mites are tiny creatures, invisible to the naked eye.

While most people experience only mild symptoms from dust-mite allergies (itching nose and eyes, sneezing), for some people with severe asthma or other respiratory problems, it could mean life or death.

These pesky critters, invisible to the naked eye, live in your pillowsmattresses, and carpets, and feed on dead skin cells shed by humans and pets. They thrive in warm environments and can't survive at temperatures below freezing.

2. Mold Spores

If you have an allergy to mold, its presence in your home can make you feel sick. More importantly, it is mold spores that can have a negative impact on your health. The symptoms triggered by mold exposure can vary from person to person.

Mold releases spores, which can become airborne and inhaled into the lungs of person(s) living in the home. Some spores produce mycotoxins, or toxic compounds. Mycotoxins on mold spores have been linked to serious health problems and disease.

Like all living things, mold needs humidity, food and oxygen to survive. Look for groups of small dark spots on walls, ceilings or floors, especially in corners and nooks. Mold loves the dark, moist conditions behind pictures and draperies, under windowsills, in books and in tile grout.

3. Household Chemicals

How does your home smell? Are you using an air freshener or diffuser, or perhaps burning a scented candle? Have you been cleaning with products that have a clean, fresh scent? A quick look in any supermarket will tell you there's a huge marketplace for scented items.

Advertisers convince you that it would be terrible if your furniture, your clothes, or your bathroom didn't smell permanently clean and fresh; think of those air fresheners that change scent, just in case you get used to one smell and don't notice it anymore.

4. Pollen

Pollen season can be a miserable time for those with hay fever. Whether you're allergic to just one type of pollen, such as grass pollen, or react to several types of pollen during the main pollen-release period, you likely have to spend most of the summer indoors. However, you don't get away from pesky pollen altogether by simply closing your windows and doors.

Pollen sticks to pet hair and clothing, and it can also enter your home through small gaps around your door frame and windows. Once it's in your home, pollen drifts in the air. But there are steps you can take to remove it.

5. Pet Dander

Pet Dander can cause problems with people prone to airborne allergies. Saliva and Urine can also cause problems.  Dander is dead skin cells that you’re pet sheds and can be compared to dandruff in humans.

People with overactive immune systems can have a reaction to the proteins secreted by the glands on the animal’s skin surface. This protein can also be present in their Saliva and Urine.

Cancer isn’t the only concern with these synthetic chemicals. Some people have adverse reactions to the components used to make perfume, particularly those who suffer from Allergies and Asthma.

It smells so rejuvenating when it feels the room with its sweet scent, but incense smoke may have a darker side. Incense smoke is increasingly being scrutinized as a causative factor in respiratory disease, particularly cancer of the respiratory tract.

This is particularly true when incense is burned in a small or poorly ventilated space such as an apartment. There’s even some thought that incense fumes may be as hazardous to health as second hand cigarette smoke.
