Allergic Fungal Sinusitis
Do you have Allergic Fungal Sinusitis?
By The Air Purifier
AFS or Allergic Fungal Sinusitis is a common fungal infection located in the sinuses. Your sinuses can get infected by environmental mold either inside or outside the home. This infection will produce blocked/clogged sinuses and thick sticky mucus.
You can develop chronic sinusitis with this condition which can affect the sense of smell. If you have this condition and its is left untreated it could lead to vision problems.
Symptoms
This problem can occur at any age but is more common in children and young adults. People with this problem have a history of allergies, nasal polyps and asthma. Here are some symptoms:
- Slowing of sinus drainage
- Stopping of sinus drainage
- Constantly having one or both nostrils plugged
Causes and Factors
This could be caused by mold spores in your home or office. Mold spores are small particles that get into the air and are breathed in by people living or working nearby. You need to know if black mold is present in your home or workplace. People will have more reactions to Black Mold spores than any other type of mold.

Treatments
Treatment for AFS could be removal of the fungal debris in your sinuses by surgery. Doctors can prescribe Steroids before and after surgery. Doctors could also use anti-inflammatory therapy for Allergic Fungal Sinusitis.
Air Filtration
Using an Air Purifier that uses a HEPA filter is a way to help eliminate mold spores from the air. You could also vacuum your rugs with a HEPA vacuum cleaner because mold spores can settle down into your rugs.
Conclusion
If your sinuses are constantly plugged it could be a sign you are being exposed to some sort of Allergen (Mold) and not a Bacterial or Viral infection.
