2. Onions

Onions are full of anti-bacterial properties, and there are a couple of ways to use those incredible properties to alleviate your discomfort.

Probably the most relaxing home remedy on the list is eucalyptus oil. While there is a wide range of essential oils that help with illnesses and diseases, eucalyptus is one of the best for managing sinusitis.

Draw yourself up a nice, hot bath, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil, and soak up. You'll want to drape a towel over your head to catch the steam from your bath. Breathe in for a few minutes or until your sinuses begin to clear. This treatment is excellent to do when you wake up and before you go to bed.

7. Lemon Balm

Gargling with lemon balm solution is a great and relatively easy way to cure your sinusitis. All you have to do is bring water to a boil and add in a decent amount (about a handful) of dried lemon balm leaves. Boil them together for about 10 minutes, then remove from the heat. Let it rest until the water cools, and then strain the solution. Gargle twice a day for best results.

9. Horseradish

This delicious and spicy treat will undoubtedly clear up your nasal passages. Just wash and grate up a small amount of horseradish, place the gratings into your mouth, and suck the juices. After the flavor is gone, just swallow the shavings. This process helps to make sure that both your nose and throat are clear of mucus.

10. Garlic

Garlic has long been used and praised for its infection-killing properties, so it's no surprise that it's made this list. There are a few ways to use garlic to help with your sinus infection.

  • Bring water to a boil and add a few crushed cloves of garlic. Remove from the burner once the garlic infuses in the water. Cover your head and the pot in a towel; keeping a safe distance from the pan, breathe deeply, inhaling the garlic-infused steam. Do this every time your nose gets stuffed up.
  • Boil garlic in water. When the water is boiling, add a healthy dose of turmeric powder. Mix it well and drink four or five glasses of it each day that you're sick.
  • Crush a clove of garlic, wrap it in some paper towel, and gently insert it into your nostrils or ears. Do not shove it too deeply. That will help to treat infections directly.

You can also just add garlic to your meals to get benefits for your sinusitis.

11. Saline Solution

Saltwater is the perfect accompaniment for your neti pot. Your neti pot should have come with an instructional guide, but here's a quick rundown. Standing over your sink, tilt your head to the side and pour your saline solution into your "top" nostril and let it empty through the lower one. Repeat three times in each nostril.

To make the saline solution, mix 1/2 glass of warm water, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Once you have combined the ingredients thoroughly, add a 1/2 glass of room-temperature water. Before filling your neti pot, ensure that the water is not too hot.

12. Green Tea

Although not a new entry to the home remedy scene, green tea continues being an effective remedy for sinusitis. With its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, it helps you get over your sinus infection quickly. Try to drink at least 2 cups every day that you're not feeling well.

13. Hot Compress

14. Basil Leaves

If you've had joint pain, you've probably already discovered the joys of basil's anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. When it comes to sinuses, though, the herb will help to drain the mucus out of your nasal passages.

Like any good tea, start by putting the washed basil leaves into either hot water or a kettle. Steep it for until the leaves adequately infuse the liquid. Then drain the tea into a cup and sip on it over the course of the day.

15. Peppermint Tea

Peppermint tea will give you a refreshing cooling sensation. To achieve this, all you have to do is add 1 or 2 teaspoons of peppermint leaves to hot water or a kettle. Steep the leaves for anywhere between three and five minutes; place the sieve directly into your cup and enjoy the tea.

16. Fenugreek Seeds

Fenugreek seeds are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, helping tremendously with sinus problems. It is another excellent way to make a healing cup of tea.

To make the tea, boil fenugreek seeds in a single cup of water. Make at least three times a day and drink a full glass each time.

17. Oregano Oil

19. Carrot Juice

Carrot juice is not only accessible and delicious, but it also is an excellent natural remedy for your sinuses. Enjoy a glass of carrot juice in the morning every day that you are sick. You'll get a massive boost of vitamin A and feel better faster. You can drink carrot juice alone or combined with other natural remedies on this list.

20. Acupressure

Acupressure can also help with your sinusitis or sinus infection and doesn't involve any needles like with acupuncture. You can either go to a professional or do this at home. Put your fingertips on either side of your nose where your eyebrows meet and apply gentle pressure. Viola! You'll get relief from sinus pain.

Conclusion

If you're sick for more than just a couple of days or if your symptoms keep getting worse, you should talk to your doctor. And you might do that anyway before trying out some of these home remedies, especially those with which you're unfamiliar or inexperienced.
